Business Development
..............................................................................................................

Nine years ago, one of the owners of SBD Consulting, Mr. Wynand Redelinghuys realized that there was a growing need for small and medium business development. Business consultants tended to focus on larger businesses while smaller businesses generally lacked the funding to employ competent consultants to advise them on business practices. In addition there seemed to be a general lack of understanding about how businesses of this size operated by practicing consultants, while the high failure associated with small and medium enterprises resulted in these businesses being neglected by larger institutions, for example financing corporations and consulting firms.

In spite of the negative reputation of small and medium business enterprises, the new political dispensation in South Africa led to an increase in the number of people from historically disadvantaged backgrounds starting up business ventures without the necessary training, skills, or more importantly financial and management support.

The above situation, together with his own experiences as a small business owner, prompted Mr. Redelinghuys to become involved in providing consultation services to these business enterprises in an attempt to provide a much needed service to these businesses that are relevant to the specific challenges that they face.

While still itself, regarded as a small to medium enterprise, SBD consulting has secured various contracts with small businesses in the Bloemfontein region to provide business consultation services of various sorts. Currently, the client base includes some 50 small and medium businesses and a further 200 individual clients. These clients range from individuals who use SBD consulting mainly as a tax consultation service, to potential business owners making use of Mr. Redelinghuys's expertise in setting up new businesses.

Based on the current growth of the business, it is envisioned that the business will only grow from strength to strength during the next few years.

During 2006 Mr. Sydney Ntili was introduced as part of the ownership of the business. Mr. Ntili is constantly involved in the business and has added a new factor to the business in terms of his training skills.

The vision of the business is addressed in the name SBD (Small Business Development) Consulting.
